Teaching at AHB is full of challenges and rewards. Every year, every class, every student is unique, and we strive to teach accordingly. That means that what worked last time the concept was taught might not work today; in fact, what worked yesterday might not work today. However, the joy that comes from teaching in an environment that encourages creativity, resourcefulness, and fun make it well worthwhile.

Our teachers are passionate about what they do. They thrive under an administration that doesn't hand them a text book and tell them what pages must be covered and when. They appreciate the amount of input they are able to give toward educational decisions affecting their classroom and the school as a whole. They love being able to utilize whatever resources are available to them to teach objectives to their individual students. They thrill in the knowledge that they are able to nurture their students' love of learning by teaching them that knowledge makes sense to their lives - not because they need to pass a test.

Though many of our teachers are certified, that is not a prerequisite at AHB. We look for experienced teachers with a genuine love of kids and teaching, and who work well in a team environment. We want people who are able to relate to students in a respectful way, and who can set firm boundaries while still having fun and maintaining a casual classroom atmosphere. We also appreciate teachers who are interested in being a part of the AHB community, participating in school events and forming relationships with AHB families. All of our classrooms are mixed age and level, so teachers experienced in varying lesson plans to meet multiple levels are preferred.

There are approximately 100 school days, with 2 weeks for Winter Break, 1 week for Spring Break, and several week-long breaks throughout the year (see calendar.) Teachers are asked to arrive in time to be ready to begin the day at 9:00 AM, and to stay until all of the children in their class are picked up or with the appropriate supervising adult (as in after-school class teachers, etc.) They are also required to attend monthly staff meetings on off-days, AHB events, etc.

We do not currently have any positions open at AHB. If you are interested in becoming a part of our teaching staff if a position opens in the future, please send your resume to Employment@ahbcs.org.
