Application Process: 2008-2009

Step 1: WEBSITE: Read through our website: www.ahbcs.org to get a feel for our school. Be sure to write down your questions & bring them to the Parent Tour.
Step 2: PARENT TOUR: Attend a Parent Tour, generally held on the first Wednesday of each month at noon. Note: Tours generally go more quickly when they are adults-only; however - if you cannot find childcare, feel free to bring your kiddo(s) along.
Step 3: APPLICATION: Fill out an application and mail both it and a $50 application fee to AHB's mailing address (PO Box 300456; Austin;78703) or fax it to (512)380-0447.
Step 4: TEACHER EVALUATION FORM: Have your child's current teacher mail in a Current Teacher Evaluation Form (K-1) or (2-7). For homeschooled children, this evaluation may be filled out by an extra-curricular teacher or co-op teacher that the child has worked with in the past six months. For school-aged children, an evaluation should be filled out by both his/her language arts and math teacher.
Step 5: PARENT INTERVIEW: Once AHB receives your child's application and current teacher evaluation(s), our business administrator will call you to set up a Parent Interview. Because families play such a special and valuable role at AHB, this is a good time to ensure that our program is a good fit for your family.
Step 6: DAY VISIT: If, based on the application, teacher eval(s), and parent interview, we feel that AHB may be a good fit for your family, we will call you to schedule a Day Visit.
Step 7*: * For Middle School students only. STUDENT INTERVIEW: We feel it is imperative that our middle school students make a conscious decision to be a part of AHB. During the student interview, prospective middle school students are given an opportunity to discuss openly their current educational environment, what they seek/value in a school, what qualities they "bring to the table," and whether they feel that AHB is a good fit for their personality and goals. Similarly, we are given the opportunity to convey the qualities that AHB seeks/values in a student and the expectations that AHB sets forth for its students.
Step 8: NOTIFICATION: After all the preceding steps have been taken, expect to be contacted by mail, email, or phone within a week. At this time, we will let you know whether or not there is an available spot for your child.
Step 9: REGISTRATION: If a spot is available, you have one week to decide whether or not you would like to "hold" the spot. In order to reserve the space, you must register and pay the non-refundable tuition deposit.
